Plans for the Station District Move Ahead

Posted in Progress Report, The Santa Ana Sentinel by Omar Ian Ávalos on June 8, 2010

Santa Ana’s City Council voted 4-0 on Monday, June 7th to allow for the development of mixed-use homes and residential towers near the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center. The council envisions a transit-oriented community that will be served by the proposed light rail that will connect to Metrolink on one end and traverse Santa Ana Boulevard to connect to the Downtown and Civic Center, then continue through the old Pacific Electric Right of Way that connects to Watts in Los Angeles County. Transit planners for the Orange County and Los Angeles County transit authorities (OCTA & MTA) are studying alternative routes with one possible route connecting to MTA’s Blue Line and the other connecting to MTA’s Green Line in Norwalk.

The Old Pacific Electric Rail line would be the ticket. That is the line which would benefit Santa Ana, Garden Grove, and the other Nothern OC Cities vastly.
If only our leaders had the WILL to build a Monorail. The maintenance costs would be so much less minimal, emissions free and quite enough for residents.
Now is the time for such a proposal. Forget the little electric trains for the Old Pacific rail. Monorail is the answer for such a connection.

Orange and LA county transit authorities published a study with transportation proposals and alternatives that is available at They suggested either a no build alternative, a rapid bus along that route, an at-grade light rail, or an elevated light rail. I suppose that a monorail can be fitted into the definition of an elevated light rail.

You’re right. Now is the time for such a proposal because they still are deciding on what alternative to go with based on public feedback.

It just so happens that the city is taking public feedback all of this week.
