Art Music of the Day: Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Márquez

Posted in Art Music, Arts & Culture, The Journal of Mexican Art Music by Omar Ávalos Gallegos on November 7, 2011

This is one of Arturo’s most famous danzones and one that is favored by Gustavo Dudamel, conductor of the LA Philharmonic.

Arturo Márquez, Mexico’s most visible contemporary composer, came to Santa Ana’s Artist Village in April of this year, where he was presented to the community and a panel discussion was held with him thanks to his brother Jorge, a former Santa Ana defense attorney, who lived in the apartments across the Santora. Jorge is now a deputy district attorney in the Imperial Valley, where he is originally from.

A video of the discussion with Arturo is available by clicking here.
