Army veteran fights wife’s deportation
A Las Vegas family has been thrust to center stage of the immigration debate by Nevada Senator Harry Reid.
James Courtney is a 15-year army veteran who has served five tours overseas and was recently medically discharged after being wounded in Iraq.
His wife of 13 years, Sharon, came to the country illegally when she was only 15.
Since the two were married Sharon has applied for citizenship and has been meeting with lawyers as well as paying fees, only to be rejected time and time again.
The two have three young sons now who were born here in the United States, but Sharon is still facing deportation.
Senator Reid addressed the couple’s situation on the Senate floor on Tuesday.
