The Santa Ana College Applied Music Schedule for Spring 2014

Santa Ana College Music presents another semester of free music performances at Fine Arts Hall (Art Building Room C-104) on Tuesdays at 5 pm and Fridays at 12:30 pm. In addition to these, this semester the Fine & Performing Arts Division will host theatre, dance and more arts events at the SAC Santora Arts Gallery downtown.

Campus parking is free for students with a valid permit and $2 for visitors.

SAC Music Launches its Steinway Campaign

The Santa Ana College Music Department in partnership with the Santa Ana College Foundation announces the launching of the SAC Steinway Campaign. The Music Department is raising funds for the purchase of a 9′ Steinway concert grand piano.

Santa Ana College Music Faculty member Dr. Jungwon Jin will offer a concert on April 12 at 8:00 pm at Phillips Hall Theatre on campus.

Tickets are 35.00 for general admission, seniors and staff and 15.00 for students, and can be purchased through this link.

About Dr. Jungwon Jin

Dr. Jungwon Jin is Assistant Professor of Music at Santa Ana College. She joined the SAC faculty in 2011. She currently teaches all levels of piano classes, music appreciation, and Reading and Making Music, an introductory music class.

Dr. Jin came to the United States to study at The Juilliard School with Martin Canin and Gyorgy Sandor. She continued her studies at the Manhattan School of Music with Constance Keene, and earned master and doctoral degrees under Nancy Bricard at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Jin has performed extensively, both in recital and with orchestra, in the United States, Asia, and Europe. Her performances were featured on ABC Radio in Australia, KBS Radio-Television in Korea, KCRW in Santa Monica, CTS TV in Buena Park, and the Young Artist Showcase on WQXR in New York.

She has been prize winner or finalist in many musical competitions including the Juilliard Concerto Competition, the Manhattan School Concerto Competition, the USC Concerto Competition, the Young Artist Guild Competition, the Sydney and New Orleans International Competitions and the Louise McMahone International Competition. In 2002 she received the Most Distinguished Music Award at the IBLA International Competition in Sicily, Italy. Her recital at New York’s Carnegie Hall took place in 2005. She has performed four concertos with Maestro Carlo Ponti Jr. with the San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra between seasons 2003 to 2008. Dr Jin’s recordings include Selected Solo Highlights from the Sydney International Piano Competition, and In Search of Light: Works of Claude Debussy. The latter was featured recording at the famed Van Gogh Exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1999.

Prior to joining the SAC faculty, Dr. Jin taught piano, music appreciation, and music theory classes at La Sierra University, Glendale Community College, East Los Angeles College, and Orange Coast College.

“American Soldiers” Now Playing at Phillips Hall Theatre

The stage play “American Soldiers” written by Matt Morillo and directed by Chris Cannon is now playing at Phillips Hall Theatre at Santa Ana College.

Remaining shows are October 18, 19 and 20 at 8:00 pm and October 21 at 2:30 pm.

Synopsis

Angela, an Army veteran and war hero, returns home emotionally scarred. After a Middle East tour of duty she views her “modern” Catholic family as nothing more than cogs in the machine of conformity. Now Angela’s father, a Vietnam War veteran, has one last chance to save his daughter, family, and self-respect as he and Angela fight for control, understanding, and meaning in their own war torn world.

Tickets are $14.00 for General admission, $12.00 for students, seniors, and staff, and $10.00 for children.
